The benefits of measuring green house gases is that it will save energy. Currently our modern food production system is highly energy inefficient under many aspects. Especially in the transportation of food. According to David Pimentel, a professor at Cornell university stated that food in the U.S. travels an average of 1,500 miles before it is consumed (9). It is unnecessary for food to be transported thousands of miles especially when the transportation of food typically consists of long haul trucks that emit enormous amounts of fossil fuels. Since these aspects will alter the green house effect and enhance the situation of climate change. Ultimately, the measurement of green house gases will give civilians more control on how much carbon is being released and how much energy is being consumed since the measurement of GHG emissions is correlated with energy consumption.
